Specialist Respite

Claire House Children's Hospice has all the necessary facilities for providing quality specialist respite for children and young people with complex medical or health needs. It also provides luxury accommodation for families and siblings as well as plenty of activities to ensure every one has fun.

The respite facility can be used in a number of ways:

·          The child/young person can stay at Claire House without their family; they will be cared for by a member of the care team who knows how to provide the exact care the child or young person requires. This allows families to spend time with other siblings, go on holiday or just relax at home and have a break.

·          The whole family can stay and have a holiday at Claire House, safe in the knowledge that someone else is taking responsibility for  all their child's special needs and they can relax and get a good night's sleep.

·          The family can stay for some visits and not others, whichever suits them best.

·          Claire House can also provide emergency respite should there be a situation where it became difficult for the family to care for the child, e.g. illness / bereavement in the family or breakdown in care package.

Respite visits also give children and young people the opportunity to meet with others who have similar conditions. Parents and carers have the chance to meet other families who are in similar positions and swap experiences or offer support.

The child / young person will be allocated a certain amount or respite according to their needs, to use as they wish and as the hospice can accommodate.
